Election Day: April 7, 2026
Early in-person absentee voting is March 24 - April 3 @ Village Hall
Moving Shorewood Forward
As the election comes to a close, I spent yesterday walking through the village and reflecting on my time here.
I started at the lake, sitting at the edge and taking in the natural beauty we are so fortunate to have in front of us every day. Families both young and old were gathered along the shore, sharing the same view. Kids laughing, people playing, others simply sitting and reflecting. I watched birds find new perches and the first buds emerge from bare branches. The cycle continues, steady and certain. This view will be here long after you and I.
Moments like that are what I value most. They are what we are entrusted to protect.
From there, I moved through the neighborhoods. You can feel the history in the homes, the character in the architecture, and the energy on the sidewalks and front porches. Chalk on the pavement. Baseballs thrown in preparation for another season at Spector Field. There is something special about Shorewood. The energy here is resilient, growth oriented, and hopeful. It is a place that lifts families up and brings people together.
It did that for mine.
I think often about when we first arrived as a young family looking for a place to put down roots. We were all in. We put everything we had into being here because Shorewood was the only place we wanted to be. The schools, the lake, Estabrook Park, the walkability, the small businesses, but more importantly the people.
I remember driving these streets with our infant asleep in the back seat, waiting for something to open up. One day I saw a sign go up, stopped, and jumped out to make an offer. That moment changed everything for us.
From then on, I felt a responsibility to give back. To help create the kind of community where other families could feel what we felt. Some of my best memories are simple ones. Playing catch in the front yard, being outside together, feeling connected to where we live.
That sense of responsibility has shaped how I lead.
Leadership is not always easy. It means listening to everyone, carrying different perspectives, and making decisions that are not always popular but are necessary for the long term health of the community. I take that seriously. I carry that weight with me, always focused on keeping Shorewood strong, sustainable, and moving forward.
If there is one thing that defines how I approach this role, it is loyalty. This community and the people in it come first.
As I continued my walk, I made my way to Oakland Avenue and our business district. I know how difficult this construction has been for businesses and residents. It is not easy to watch. But this project is long overdue. We made the decision to wait after COVID to give businesses time to recover. Now we are making the investment that will carry this district forward.
There are better days ahead. I believe that.
At the same time, now is the moment to support the businesses we already have. What we have here is exceptional. From the bakery at North Shore Boulangerie, to the matzo ball soup at Benji's Deli, the burgers at Crave Cafe, and the selection at Cloud Red, we are fortunate to have so much quality within a short walk.
That is part of what makes Shorewood special. Everything is close. Everything is connected. Walking or biking through the village, especially on a spring day, feels different. Whether it is walking the dog, heading to school, visiting the farmers market, or making your way down Oakland Avenue, there is a rhythm here that stays with you.
As I finished my walk, I found myself not just reflecting on where we have been, but feeling energized about where we are going.
Many of the decisions we have made are not always visible right away, but they are foundational. We have made generational investments that will keep Shorewood strong for decades. We have taken on challenges that others were not willing to address, not because it was easy but because it was necessary.
We believe that investing now is how you protect the future.
A mentor once told me that you need to be able to sleep at night with your decisions. That has become my compass.
Shorewood is a special place. It has the ability to lift people up, and we are proof of that. I am proud to play a role in doing the same for others.
And I am excited about what comes next.
There is still more work to do. The projects we have started, the foundation we have built, and the momentum we have created are all leading somewhere meaningful. I am committed to seeing that work through and helping bring it to fruition for our community.
It would be an honor to have your support one more time so we can continue this work together and fully realize what we have set in motion.
Shorewood, thank you.
